Telesom Launches "Hagbaad Iga Dir" at Somaliland's 2024 ICT Conference
Hargeisa, Somaliland โ Telesom, a GSMA Mobile Money Certified Operator, proudly unveiled "Hagbaad Iga Dir" during the Somaliland Annual ICT Conference on August 27, 2024. This innovative service modernizes traditional rotating savings groups (Hagbad) through Telesom's mobile money platform, ZAAD, empowering communities and driving financial inclusion.
Hagbad has long been a vital cultural practice, enabling individualsโparticularly womenโto pool resources for savings and investments. However, manual processes often introduced inefficiencies and challenges. Hagbaad Iga Dir addresses these by automating contributions and distributions, accessible through simple USSD commands (844 for USD, 244 for SLSH). The service ensures security, transparency, and ease of use, making financial empowerment accessible to all.
In its initial Q1, Hagbaad Iga Dir has already gained traction, with over 415 active users and 4,223 transactions recorded.

Hagbaad Iga Dir charges a minimal fee of 500 SLSH per transaction, making it an affordable solution for all users. Looking ahead, Telesom plans to enhance the service with the IGA Dir App, which will enable Somali diaspora members to contribute to local Hagbad groups and support recurring payments for causes like education, utilities, and savings.
